What format are the images in? All JaveaPhoto.com images are in JPG format.
Why do you only use the photo's resolution to define printing quality?
Because it makes it easier for you to work out the final print quality using the resolution rather than our opinion. Print quality is determined by the quality of the photo - which you can enlarge to see - and the resolution size (in pixels) automatically worked out by the site software. This means the purchaser does not need to worry about whether a picture was originally 300 (High print quality) or 72 (Average Screen Quality) dpi per inch -
Examples -
To calculate the end size in inches divide the resolution size by the desired print quality eg
3000 resolution wide image divided by 300dpi would print out at 10 inches wide at magazine quality ( for cm divide the resolution by 118.19 which in this example of 3000 pixels is c.25.38cm )
3000 resolution wide image divided by 72dpi (Screen, web quality or low quality print) would print or display at over 41 inches ( for cm divide the resolution by 28.34 which in this example would be c. 105.86 cm )
As a quick guide
1000 pixels @ 300dpi = 3.33 inches ( 8.46 cm)
1000 pixels @ 72dpi = 13.89 inches (35.29 cm)
As a general guide, although it seems at first glance to be complicated, it actually makes it very simple to decide what size image you want to use and what the lowest resolution you need to buy to achieve the quality you want. For commercial printing we recommend 300dpi. For web use 72dpi is perfectly acceptable for most users.

Why is it free to join as a Photographer, most sites charge me to join?
We want to promote Javea and the Marina Alta Area in Spain as a destination for Business and Pleasure. Wherever you are based in the world, if our site helps to promote your photography - then your photography helps us to promote Javea, even if your pictures have nothing to do with Javea or Spain at all! We feature many photos with Spanish and Mediterranean subjects - by helping to make the site more popular, by extending its range of images and interesting content, you are increasing the number of people that will look at the site and see what this area of Spain is like... so it seems reasonable to us to give you an incentive to put your photos here. The 15% we charge on the pictures you sell covers our costs - and leaves you with 85% of every sale, with no costs. Whether your photos are of London,Texas, a remote part of the Philippines or your office filing cabinet - they will (hopefully) make the site more interesting. If they are all about living in Spain and show what life is like on the Costas - then we would definitely appreciate you joining in.
Why do you only offer PayPal as the means of payment?
Principally because we have used it for years and so far have not had any problems with it. You don't need a PayPal account to use a credit card through it - though it obviously speeds the process if you do. Principal advantage from both your and our point of view is that your purchase is made through the secure PayPal site so Javea Photos never sees your personal card details - just your order details - much safer for you and for us!
I don't have a PayPal Account - but I want to buy a Photo?
No problem - if you have a valid credit or debit card, you do not need a PayPal account. Just follow the instructions from the Cart screen and Our PayPal account will be able to handle your card, without you needing to sign up!
If you don't have a card or a PayPal account and you need to use a cheque, cash or bank to bank transfer, or you require Invoicing - then use the Contact Us area and tell us the problem. We will then be able to sort an alternative payment method out for you. If we get enough requests for a particular alternative form of payment we will look at the possibiity of adding it as a permanent form of Payment gateway.
I have put an item in the cart but I am having problems completing the payment?
Tell us what the problem was (click support request) and if it is an issue on the website, we will sort it out as quickly as we can. If the problem is with the cart or the process - we would really like to know!
Do you offer refunds if I decide not to use the image I bought? Once your purchase is made we can not offer a refund. The reason for this policy is because each purchase allows full access to the digital image purchased and, as such, there is no way for our products to be returned, once it has been downloaded. Obviously there may be a valid reason for your need for a refund that might cause us to reconsider the rule - but this is done on a case by case basis. If you feel that you are entitled to a refund as a matter of fair trade then we will be happy to listen to and consider your case (click support request)
Are there any restrictions on my use of the photos that I download? Yes, but only a few. JaveaPhotos.com offers great freedoms and a wide ranges of uses, but we do not allow the redistribution of our photos, or allow the use of our photos within products that are mass distributed in any type of archive format. For example this means you could use an image on a mug, a calendar, a presentation, an advert, on packaging or a van and you can sell the product you create using the image thousands of times - you can use it to pretty up your desktop or as an embedded image on a website you design - but you cannot download an image, change its name and then resell the image repackaged as if it was your own - nor can you sell it as a sample photo in a bundle of software templates (like a dtp image collection or web templates... ie you cannot resell it in a way that allows others to use it and sell it on, except as an integral part of the original product you used it for ( ie "book cover" OK, "one of 100 free photo images when you buy xxx" NOT OK) See the next FAQ for more info on this
